Soothing Activities For The Holidays

When times aren’t easy, it’s good to have activities that help you rejuvenate yourself. They may not fix everything, but your mind will start to feel more relaxed. You may even find that a simple act like enjoying your morning coffee puts a smile on your face.

To be honest, it’s hard to find the right words to say about this situation right now. It’s all pretty dizzying. It’s the end of the year, the Holidays, quarantine all over again in California, many people out of work again so I just want you to know that if you are struggling, it’s okay.  Not every day will be productive or simple; we don’t live in an Instagram post. Some moments are harder and messier than others. (Personally, I’ve had days where I do just lay around and soak in being still and not feel guilty about doing all the time)

Remember that you’re only human and this isn’t an easy situation. It’s something we’ve never been through before.

The most important thing is that you’re being gentle with yourself — even if that means taking it one step at a time.

I have come up with a list of 10 things that will help you through the rest of the year to sooth your soul.

  1. Open your window for some fresh air.

Ok I live in Southern California so it’s ok to do this because its pretty much no cooler than 70 degrees outside however if you are in a cold state like upstate New York sometimes just taking a quick deep breath in when you step outside is a great way to refresh your lungs.

  1. Take a hot bath or shower

Personally I am a super bath person, bubble and all. It’s my regular self-care time. When you are in the process of bathing just take a few moment to appreciate your body, and the sensation of the water hitting your skin. Simple!

  1. Limit Social Media time

I know, I know, harder done than said. Every once and a while, it’s helpful to detox from social media. Staying informed is important, but make sure to unplug if you feel the news is taking a toll on your wellbeing. It’s okay to take a break for a while to protect your mental health. You may even find that setting up designated times for social media is a useful habit.

  1. Stay hydrated

I can’t tell you how many times I start feeling a little cranky or off and all i need to do is drink water or have some hot tea. Its winter time so our bodies need hydration even more so during this time of year than other times because our skin can dry out due to the cold. So make sure to drink up!

  1. Journaling

This item always ends up on my lists because I am a big fan of journaling. I started writing in a journal or diary when I was 9 years old. I stayed with the practice less about writing out the events of my day than my feelings around activities or emotions I am having. I recommend the good old fashioned writing in a journal vs typing however each to their own!

  1. Do Daily stretching

Part of my morning routine is doing yoga stretching in the morning. Its the best way to wake up your body and really feel your body. It could consists of a back alignment but I recommend doing a full 5-10 minutes if stretching if your time allows. Our bodies are like rubber bands, they will stretch as far as you allow it.

  1. Have a solo dance party!

If there is anything that liberates the should more it’s dancing. One thing my coach pointed out to me around abundance is it has the word DANCE in it! How cool is that?!

  1. Enjoy a cup of tea or hot chocolate

We are an over stimulated society with caffeine. I personally stay away from it because of sensitively however I drink tea everyday, like 3 cups at least by 11am. I love having a hot steaming mug that I am smelling and wrapping my hands around for warmth. For hot chocolate, the home made kind is the best! Try the Abuelitas version, its simple to make!

  1. Read

So many of us claim “I don’t have time to read” by saying it we are not creating a space for it in our lives. If we choose to make time it will allow us the time to sit down, curl up with a favorite book. I love reading before bed time, there is something special about when the lights are all out except me sitting in my corner with my little light and book. Makes me warm and fuzzy.

  1. Sleep In

Our society frowns on sleeping in and not being productive in the morning. There are books that have been written on getting up early before anyone else to take back the day. I love that but it’s ok to be easy on yourself and let yourself sleep in when you desire to. Our bodies do THE MOST healing when we are asleep, so if you can avoid setting an alarm for a few days out of the week, I recommend you lean into that.

I hope that you enjoyed this post, lovelies! Stay safe, healthy, and know that things are going to be okay. Sending a lot of love and positivity your way!
